We’re delighted to announce that Banbury Howard’s financial controller, Daniel English, will be representing us at a dazzling BBC-inspired Strictly competition featuring Katya Jones

It’s not often that fancy footwork and finance collide, but when they do, we’re betting on high scores! Daniel has been selected as one of the volunteers to participate in a fundraising ‘dance off’ at Trinity Park this month.

‘Strictly Suffolk’, now in its third year, brings together 10 brave souls who have all dedicated their time to learn to dance in aid of young people’s charity, Inspire Suffolk. Daniel shares his thoughts ahead of the glittering grand final on 22nd July.

What inspired you to participate in the Ipswich Strictly fundraiser?

It’s a great opportunity to raise money for a fantastic charity. As a dad to two young boys, I’m in awe of the work carried out by Inspire Suffolk, so when the opportunity arose, I jumped at it.

What does your family think about it?

My wife, Lynne, is delighted. Dancing’s in her blood – she used to compete for Scotland. Over the years, I’ve had to stand on the sidelines at weddings, so I can’t wait to join her next time.

What will you have to do on the night?

All ten couples need to showcase two different dances: one ballroom, and one Latin. In true Strictly style, they will be judged by a professional panel – including Strictly dancer, Katya.

Which dances have you chosen and why?

I’ve chosen jive and quickstep, fast dances that get the adrenaline pumping. As a bit of a fitness freak, I have plenty of energy – the challenge will be turning speed into style!

How have you found the experience so far?

It’s been good fun. All of the teachers from the Ipswich School of Dancing are so supportive, and my partner, Niamh, is lovely. There’s a lot to learn so I’m checking out YouTube videos to see what I’m supposed to look like!

What has it taught you about yourself?

Like most chaps, I used to feel very self-conscious on the dance floor. This experience has taught me that there’s nothing to be scared of. Dancing’s a great leveler.

What have you enjoyed the most?

Learning something new. It’s easy to get caught up in the everyday pressures of work and family, and the lessons have taken me completely outside my comfort zone.

What reaction have you had from your colleagues at Banbury Howard?

Everyone has been great. Overall they’ve been really respectful, saying, “mate, there’s no way could I do that.”
